    Confirmation

The meaning of the Confirmation ceremony differs slightly across Christian faiths. To be put

simply and the generalise across all Christian faiths, the Confirmation is a ceremony to

confirm one's commitment to a faith and become recognised as of a mature age in the eyes

of God. It is confirming one's belief in their chosen faith and is a time to strengthen the bond

    between your soul and God.

    Where to have the ceremony?

The school parish that your child attends will most likely host a Confirmation ceremony every

1-2 years. Your child may participate in the school's confirmation, or you may contact your

preferred parish to secure a place for your child in their next confirmation ceremony.

If the school you child attends does not offer a Confirmation ceremony, you may also

Contact your preferred parish to include your child in their program.

If you are of a mature age and are yet to be confirmed, you may contact your preferred

parish or church to discuss your options as to when you are able to participate in a

    confirmation ceremony.

    Ceremony Attire

There are no specific rules for appropriate attire at the confirmation ceremony. Some attire

rules may be dictated by the church/parish or the school hosting the confirmation ceremony.

As a general rule, respectful and moderately conservative clothing is appropriate. Try to

avoid casual clothing items, especially denim.

    Preparing for Confirmation

If your child is being Confirmed by the school parish/church, the school will thoroughly

prepare your child with the appropriate lessons and preparations for the ceremony.

Information will be sent home with the children for parents and the school is most likely to

hold information sessions for parents and children.

The school may host an after ceremony celebration with drinks and light nibbles after the

confirmation, however, any further celebrations must be organised by the child's family.

For those of a mature age, the parish/church will guide you through the necessary

    preparation for your confirmation ceremony.

    Confirmation Sponsor

Those individuals who will be participating in a Confirmation Ceremony will require a sponsor

who acts as a spiritual guide for the individual. The sponsor is of the same faith and has

been Confirmed into the faith. The sponsor is there as a guide to teach and support the

individual making their Confirmation. The sponsor's duties by no means end after the

ceremony, by accepting the role as someone's Confirmation Sponsor, they are committing

to that person as a confidant and religious guide indefinitely.

    Confirmation Name

The Confirmation name is a common tradition of the Roman Catholic faith and an occasional

tradition on the Anglican faith. A Confirmation name is adopted by the individual being

Confirmed. It is the name of  Saint of whom the individual feels closely affiliated with. By

adopting the name, they are securing the guidance of a patron saint through out their life.

    Where and how to celebrate

After the formalities of the ceremony are over, it's time to celebrate! How and where will

depend on your budget and number of people you invite to celebrate the religious occasion.

Here are a few celebration suggestions (click on each to get decoration ideas):

    - Luncheon at a restaurant with close family and friends.

    - Buffet lunch at someone's home.

    - Afternoon party at someone's home.

    - Reception venue luncheon or dinner - may be shared with other families.

    Don't forget the Cake

The cake is a great addition to an individuals confirmation day. There are may different

designs and types of cakes to choose from. See our religious cakes gallery to see some

    decorating ideas for cakes.
